Discovering your (marketing) strengths

Sometimes I'm saddened to see people resorting to cliches or gimmicks in their construction marketing.

Sometimes you don't know better or some salesperson tells you that the conventional way is the only way.

Of course often the standard approach is best -- time-proven, tested approaches are successful, over and over, because they are effective in practice. No need to reinvent the wheel.

But maybe you can think things through differently, with a little creativity.

To succeed, you do not need to spend a significant amount of money as you turn what you truly enjoy doing into your cornerstone marketing strategy.

Here is the exercise.

List your three most satisfying and enjoyable pursuits. They can be work related, or hobbies, or simply your greatest pleasures in life.

Second, pick the one of the three things you enjoy the most that you are best at -- this can be defined by yourself or your friends (often it is something people pay you to do).

Then think about your marketing around this key activity, interest and strength. Your challenge is to connect this special strength to your current and potential clients. When you do this, you will discover your marketing power.

You will also enjoy the experience, and be able to sustain it through all economic conditions.
