Yesterday, I travelled to Bloomingdale, Ontario, near Kitchener, to visit Van-Del Contracting Ltd., a family-owned business serving clients largely based in southwestern Ontario. Founded by Richard Stevanus in 1974, the business now has about 50 employees with virtually all business coming from repeat customers. The company does not bid on public tenders -- preferring private project management and design-build projects.
